Our extensive portfolio of work covers urban and rural landscape masterplanning, resort development, public streetscape and parks, rural subdivision, residential design and landscape assessment. BDG is now owned by the directors Paddy Baxter and Brooke Mitchell and currently has 5 landscape architects, 2 CAD staff and an office manager. Paddy’s experience included 10 years working for a large practice with responsibilities that included resort and urban design works throughout New Zealand. At present our job list covers large scale tourism and development projects throughout New Zealand and public spaces including town centre projects and urban design.
Paddy Baxter has received several awards during the course of his career including major NZILA awards for the Queenstown Village Green, Millbrook Resort and a National Award for Blanket Bay Lodge. In April 2013 BDG won an NZILA Award of Excellence for the Remarkables Primary School landscaping design. At BDG we provide innovative design solutions to projects in a wide range of environments, and we take pride in shaping the New Zealand landscape for the future

Gordon’s labor varies from the management of large urban projects to planning trivial domestic projects from conception through construction to completion. Baxter Design Group is an lively team of Landscape Architects currently involved with many projects throughout the Southern Lakes region, Central Otago and other centers throughout New Zealand and the Pacific.
Emma is our Office and Accounts Manager and is happy to help with any queries you may have. Baxter Design Group is an energetic team of landscape architects involved with many tall profile projects. This project extended the popular area with fresh historic panels, graded walls, decking and custom built seating. Steve brings a wide range of experience and a diverse skill set to Baxter Design.
Key design elements included retention of the existing stone retaining wall with the integration of a series of outer steps to provide better pedestrian circulation, terraced planting and relocation of existing flag poles to burst the form of large retaining walls, various landscape designed features and seating areas, plus good layout of external spaces to bear apropos vehicle and drop off areas. Megan has joined Baxter Design and brings with her with experience and skills in master planning, culturally sensitive landscapes and golf course resort design. The school is a brand new construction close to the remarkable mountain range to accommodate the growing primary school population in Queens town and the surrounding areas. We worked closely with the owner in setting out a ground breaking rural housing cluster.
This park is a children’s play area located in the center of Lake Hayes Estate which is a large housing development outer Queens town. Gordon works within the team producing concept plans and presentation packages for clients and official Council submissions during the design process earlier construction begins. Mill brook is a honest and well established golf resort near Arrowtown in the Wakatipu Basin. Paddy Baxter has worked as a Landscape Architect with Mill brook since its conception, with Baxter Design Group becoming the sole Landscape Architects and master planners involved with the current expansion of Mill brook.
Design included the layout of lots and goading, house positions, entry and gate detailing, courtyard detailing and outside lighting and planning. betel Park Development just outer Arrowtown is a recent development in which bag worked with the Client designing a insignificant village like atmosphere around a central shared sports facility including a gym and swimming pool. The space was opened up with a important grassed area incorporating deciduous trees, fresh paving, seating and planting beds formalizing the area with a potent expansive new jetty which is in routine use today with charter cruise boats and fishing boats. New tree planting was added to coordinate with existing street trees with new planters as well.
The bag landscape design covered all areas of the site from lake front to highway around all the many buildings within the complex. Each section within the Estate was uniquely designed and blended into the surrounding landscape to each Client's requests. The compact hard site presented a dynamic landscape for bag to sculpt a hard wearing garden for the clients. The bag design increased the size of the paving areas and added custom street furniture to coordinate with the previously designed and built Shotover Street, Queens town.
Church Street Queens town is a one way join road running from Camp Street to the lake front. Kawarau Falls Station KFC is a large design project which Baxter Design Group is involved with the landscape design.
