Shirley founded Rockies in 1992, four years after moving to Queenstown, surrendering to the temptation of the climate and outdoor activities Avid skiers, Shirley and her family chose beautiful Queenstown to call home and have enjoyed the lifestyle along with the winter fun. With her two adult children now left home Shirley and her husband are enjoying the opportunity to enjoy some overseas travel. She dedicates herself to supplying the best labels, sourced from all over the world. Jude has been a Queenstown local for 23 years, meeting and marrying her partner here leading to 2 wonderful children, now teenagers. A farm girl with a passion for fashion Jude joined the Rockies team in 199 bringing her flair for merchandising and contagious smile with her recently becoming store manager.
Aino travelled to Queenstown for a snowboarding and outdoors adventure, leading to her meeting her partner, an AJ Hackett adrenaline enthusiast. Sophie joined the Rockies team in December Taking the long way home but succumbing to the beauty of Queenstown through rave reviews from fellow travellers in Thailand. Born in the UK, she does struggle with the Kiwi lingo but despite the hurdles of 'luxing' and the unwarranted references to everyone being brothers bro everythings 'sweet' and she enjoys living in NZ and is entering her second here in Queenstown. Airini moved to Queenstown 13 years ago with her partner Mark, to become a ski instructor Airini and Mark married in 2011.
An exciting business venture for two, encouragement from a husband and a strong desire to save their own children from the dreaded fashion faux pas, resulted in a shop formally known as Hopscotch. Growing and adapting into the ever changing retail world of the town surrounding Lake Wakatipu Rockies was warmly welcomed by local families and visitors from all over the world. Founded by Shirley Popenhagen, she had a vision of a children's boutique, where children could channel their personalities and individuality through illustrious and niche fashion labels. Rockies does not only dress the children of Queenstown, it now adorns the youngsters of our out of town clientele something we are very proud of, featuring in Lonely Planet, New Zealand as a result of our dedication to worldly fashion.
All of our pieces are handpicked sourcing key fashions, trends and fabrics to offer our customers an outfit with accessories that are perfectly chic but also resilient, catering to playtime. Rockies stocks labels from Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand which include Catimini, Munster, Minti and Rock Your Baby among many others. An extensive range of footwear including Converse, Skechers, DC's, Vans and Bobux are also in store to compliment the clothing range. Being based in Queenstown, The Southern Hemisphere's premier four season lake and alpine resort, naturally, we also stock a large range of winter ski and snowboard wear over ten different labels.
