One of New Zealand’s leading tourism companies is doing its bit to help by planting over 1,00 native seedlings in the DOC Paradise Reserve next to the pristine Dart River. This Saturday 24 September around a dozen keen volunteers from Ng i Tahu Tourism’s Dart River Jet, affiliate businesses and local students from Queenstown Resort College QRC , will head into the remote area beyond Glenorchy at the head of Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu to plant the seedlings. Set against a background of native beech forest and towering mountain ranges, Glenorchy’s surrounds are nothing short of awe inspiring.
Dart River in addition to supporting the Routeburn Trust is also active in adopting the East end of the Paradise Forest reserve where we walk our guests and making a long term conservation effort aimed at restoring this native Red Beech forest to its state prior to the arrival of the early settlers. Queenstown itself is right on beautiful Lake Wakatipu so something that’s easy to do is spend some time sitting back on one of its beaches. If taking the jump isn’t your thing though, AJ Hackett also do swings and climbs, so if it comes to the day and you don’t feel like jumping, there are plenty more things on offer.
